PLEASE READ: INSTRUCTIONS

  • May. 9th, 2008 at 9:14 PM
Hey all,

So unfortunately I don't know quite as much as I'd like about LiveJournal (in other words, how to flip around entries so chapters 1-5 are at the top, etc.)...you'll just have to check out the nifty navigation system on the LH side ("Page Summary", I think it's called). I will be posting more chapters as soon as possible--it takes FOREVER to get through the stupid formatting, since everything randomly goes bold and italicized and whatever...(I apologize for the random centered titles in one of the recent chapter posts--not the chapter itself, but the link--I can't get it to left align. You would think as a web designer I would be able to do this...*sigh*.)

Anyway. If you leave comments, please let me know which chapter or part you are referring to...and this is a shameless plug but do send this site to your friends, if you would...??? :) (do warn them not to read the timeline or chapter/character guides until after they've read the story...) That would be fantastic...I am very happy with this story and really, really appreciate all the amazing support I've gotten over the past couple of years writing it! You're all wonderful and I hope to hear from as many of you as possible--leave a comment to say hi!

WINTERSTAR: THE STORY

Due to my own paranoia about the nature of fanfiction.net, I'm going to actually post the entire story on this livejournal. This will be an experiment...sit tight!

Characters Part 3

  • Aug. 27th, 2007 at 12:03 AM

Katie Fleming

    • As Sirius Black’s girlfriend, Katie is sweet and pretty but knows how to take care of herself. Vindictive only when you cross her, she nevertheless harbors a selfish side that leaves her on the lookout for intrusions into her comfortable little sphere. She is very easy to get along with but leaves people (including Sirius) wanting a bit more than she will freely give them. She makes sure only to show her good side to the world; her bad side she keeps held back until something necessitates its use—people don’t often see it, and tend to forget that it’s there.

    • Personality: primarily self-centered but cares about her close friends, vindictive, flattering, tease, “doll-like” and accommodating but only externally kind (and very good at it)

    • Appearance: petite, fair-haired, light-brown eyes, moves like a little bird at times.

Peter Pettigrew

    • The least talented of the four Marauders, Peter (also known as "Wormtail" for his rat Animagus form) genuinely cares for his friends, but his need for their approval gets in the way of his own plans, actions, even thoughts (at times). He doesn’t easily warm up to people, but is quite willing to help others and is often embarrassed when people praise or thank him. He idolizes James and Sirius and considers Remus his one tried-and-true best friend. Others in the Marauders’ circle are accepted by him if they are accepted by James and Sirius; he likes those that Remus likes. This outward tendency of Peter’s leads to disaster when he has to face his own inner doubts and fears.

    • Personality: good-natured, well-intended but sometimes awkward, prone to self-oriented thoughts and actions

    • Appearance: somewhat shorter than his friends, mousy features and mouse-brown hair, a little dumpy, blue eyes, good-natured but occasionally-nervous smile

Lily Evans

    • Lily prides herself on being a good student and a better friend. As much as she refuses to admit it, she cares deeply for James Potter: though he goes against all her instincts in the recklessness department, she recognizes that he is a genuinely good person underneath all his brashness and somewhat-exaggerated egotism. She has no patience for people who think too much of themselves and has a strong sense of justice, refusing to tolerate cruelty in nearly any form; she and Remus are the Marauders’ voices of reason.

    • Personality: perfectionist, kind but no-nonsense, impatient, friendly but somewhat reserved.
    • Appearance: flowing dark-red hair, sharp almond-shaped green eyes, slender and medium height, warm laugh

Characters Part 2

  • Jun. 3rd, 2007 at 12:28 AM
  • Remus Lupin

o       Quiet but calmly strong, Remus Lupin is the reserved one of the group and possibly the least dependent on his friends. He is extremely bright but doesn’t think too much of himself, and is happy to leave the glory (most of the time) to the more unruly James and Sirius—as a prefect, he has to. Nonetheless, he is often to be found plotting their next adventure with them. He is good-natured and tries to take things in stride. It takes a great deal for him to lose his trust in someone, but once that trust is lost, it takes an even greater deal for him to give it again. His is an enduring personality, and his great loyalty to his friends overrides even his own personal concerns, including his feelings for the young woman his friend is in love with.

o       Personality: contemplative, sweet, good-natured, strong, enduring, quietly humorous but can be boisterous when the situation calls for it, loyal to the point of putting aside his own needs and wants for the sake of his friends.

o       Appearance: light-brown/sandy-tawny hair, half-wild brown-gold eyes with gold flecks, thin-framed but strong.

CHARACTERS

  • Sirius Black

o       Sirius is an interesting person—wild and cocky, he retains an immense depth which he shows with some care. Regarded as one of the brightest students at Hogwarts, he is generally behind the crazy things that the Marauders do, and it is highly suspected that many of the rules at Hogwarts were created specifically with him in mind. That aside, however, Sirius cares passionately—almost to the point of lack of sense—about his best friends and refuses to believe anything bad about them (though once his trust is broken it can never be regained). He is a creature of extremes whose day-to-day polarization is strangely offset by the incredible depth and constancy of his relationships. He invests his entire being—mind, body, and soul—in them (his relationship with Katie did not follow this pattern, and he realized that) and it is this almost-blind devotion which all but destroys him in the end.

o       Personality: charismatic, charming, apparently lazy, bright, impatient, reckless, moody, passionate, incredibly loyal, mischievous, capable

o       Appearance: tall and well-built, lithe, “casually graceful” dark hair, grey eyes, dangerously lazy

  • James Potter

o       The epitome of brilliant and cocky, James Potter is good at everything, including being the best friend Sirius Black could ever ask for. No one thinks of one of them without the other (especially not Slytherins). James goes through life as a happy-go-lucky little upstart, setting his hopes on one thing—the lovely Lily Evans—and enjoying everything else. Occasionally his (literally) charmed life can blind him to the needs of others, including his friends, but they know that in the end they are the fabric of his existence, and that he would, if necessary, die for them. With Sirius it is more obvious that this is the case, but James, if one gets to know him well enough, is the same.

o       Personality: sunny, focused, loyal, strong-willed, hopeful, bright, impish, ringleader

o       Appearance: tall, perpetually-messed dark hair, hazel eyes, glasses, longish features, blinding grin, restless energy

  • Sabrina Godfrey

Sabrina is a brilliant young witch who, on the surface, fits right in with the Marauders. It’s only a mask, though—underneath the always-laughing façade, emotions threaten to overwhelm her at times, especially when she refuses to admit them to herself. She pokes fun at others to draw attention away from her real feelings, and then blames things on her own supposed shortcomings. She suffers in silence for a long time because she can’t help being attracted to the handsome and charismatic Sirius Black, and sees in his girlfriend Katie all the things she thinks she should be. Sirius is able to see past her emotional walls more often than she would like, and he finally is able to break them down once he falls in love with the real Sabrina behind the joking mask.

o       Personality: joking but contemplative, sharp, inquisitive, fun-loving, deeply caring but apparently untouchable, always observing but rarely sharing serious commentary unless it’s something very important, “deflective”

o       Appearance: dark brown-auburn hair, captivating gray-green eyes, unconventional features (“features that were more striking than beautiful”), tall (for a girl; 5’7” or 5’8”), gestures with her arms (mostly her hands) and upper body

More will be added later!

Welcome!

Welcome to Winterstar: The Marauders Unveiled!

Winterstar started out as a romance and ended up becoming what I now think of as exactly what happened to the Marauders. I did my best to create each character as I think JK Rowling meant them to be, and in this guide I intend to try to show each of them to you, especially the oft-forgotten-and-shunted-aside Peter Pettigrew.

I’ve tried to model this after the HP Lexicon—I’ve included a chapter-by-chapter guide, character breakdown (with pictures if possible), and of course a timeline. Also, I will include several “did-you-notice” remarks. :D

Enjoy! Thank you so much for taking the time to read the entire story—I hope this is helpful/interesting!
